We are challenging the traditional campus typology that exists today by looking at society and education as a network of behavior with fuzzy distinctions. This is complimented by our growing diverse population in dense urban fabrics.

Thus making the traditional hierarchical campus, with its radiating central yard, obsolete for today’s needs. Reinventing this top-down approach, to one that is based on experience, density strategies, and optimization.

Studies of human behavior have determined flexibility and adjacencies of spaces to induce chance meetings and potential for conversation. The campus will be embedded with semiotics that are clear to students, teachers and visitors alike.

The machine for learning that we are proposing is flexible and adaptable to its users and environment. A porous structure that has no clear dividing lines, yet rather overlapping programs for interdisciplinary research. There is the notion of constantly changing populations requiring physical accessibility, perceptual palpability and cognitive intelligibility.

The synthesis is a new definition of a campus, one that is set within today’s environment and society. The goal is to provide an architecture that is not only a vessel for learning, but also a participant within the process.
