productive city - introduction
Housing & Urbanism

A series of short workshops in the first term explored the spatial implications of the theme of the productive city, investigating areas in inner London that are experiencing strong processes of change.
Three tutor groups each ran three short workshops, with student groups re-mixing for each.  This enabled every student to test a broad range of concepts and approaches to urban intervention, and to develop experience in group working.

Research themes included;

  • Type, pattern and scale.
  • Urban transactions - with a focus on urban grain, boundaries and quarters.
  • Mobility, hubs and networks.
  • An ecology for innovation: spaces of work, education and living.
  • Informality, both economic and spatial.
